“Beloved Community” — Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., “The Power of Non-Violence ⏤ Sermon for Gandhi” 1959 Revision
“The aftermath of nonviolence is the creation of the Beloved Community, so that when the battle’s over, a new relationship comes into being between the oppressed and the oppressor. The way of acquiescence leads to moral and spiritual suicide. The way of violence leads to bitterness in the survivors and brutality in the destroyers. But, the way of non-violence leads to redemption and the creation of the Beloved Community.”
What becomes possible when done as Beloved Community?
{Belonging, Multiple Perspectives, Communal Functioning, Differentiated Attunement, and Thriving!}
The development of Beloved Community(s) creates high-performance Teams and Organizations (Communities | Businesses) that embody practices of Diversity (embodiment of multiple perspectives), Inclusion (Belonging: Social cohesion and resilience), and Equity (behaviors that ensure that specific needs of each Person AND Community are met).
Beloved Community(s) iteratively learn and evolve structural-technical and cultural-relational systems, processes, protocols, and practices to achieve systemic thriving by systematically identifying and addressing potential, emerging, and current extinction-level issues and solutions in the critical areas of human development and environmental impact.
Beloved Community(s) use Covenants increase social cohesion (Belonging) and resilience — demonstrating that awareness through measurable actions of Mutually Assured Prosperity (MAP) is the antidote to the current cultural climate of Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD). It is the adoption and practice of communal cultural identity-orientation. The “Communal” cultural identity-orientation is where the stewardship of a “Commons” (relationships | natural resources | converted assets) — as a highly attuning “group” (tribal | clan | kinship) identity — is the primary focus of awareness. The communal identity propagates memes that are sourced from collective-agency and interdependent-sufficiency value systems — that define the wellbeing (health | wellness) of the members as being dependent upon the wellbeing of the Commons as a whole system. These memes are observable as behavioral norms that drive towards high relational attunement/awareness with the system-as-a-whole, and between members.
Existential crisis occurs when communal identity is challenged by a cultural assertion that the “Commons” has been damaged because of diminished member attunement/awareness and appropriate response — therefore trust in “belonging” and wellbeing cannot be sustained. Relational needs (Trust: Safety ⏤ Belonging) drive structures and technology. Relational stress (Trauma) is based on reduction of Trust and inappropriate or lack of structural enforcement. “Organizations” (Family | Tribe | Community | Company | Government) are structures and technologies evolved to serve communal relational needs, and specifically communal identity.
